The 2019 VW Golf GTI Rabbit Edition isn’t just a regular 2019 VW Golf GTI with a special Rabbit Edition badge added, either. Instead, the 2019 Golf GTI Rabbit Edition gets a slew of special and unique style features like 18-inch Gloss Black aluminum-alloy wheels, a black rear spoiler, LED headlights, black side mirror caps, Rabbit seat tags, and red-stitched floor mats. The 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI Rabbit Edition also features exclusive exterior color options to choose from, including Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White and Deep Black Pearl.
The Engine
For 2019, every GTI received an 8-hp bump for its 2.0-liter engine, and the dual-clutch automatic transmission option gained a gear, for a total of seven. We struggled to make the 228-hp turbo four outshine its predecessors. Zero-to-60-mph sprints of 5.8 and 6.3 seconds for the automatic and manual, respectively, mean that these Rabbits performed about the same in a straight line as the GTIs of the recent past.
The Turbocharged
The 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI Rabbit Edition comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that delivers 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This model doesn’t just come with exhilarating performance equipment, it also has plenty of space for your passengers and cargo. The Rabbit Edition has 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space available. It also has 41.2 and 35.6 inches of legroom in the front and rear row, respectively. Now that you know more about this vehicle, let’s take a look and see what kind of amenities it has to make your time behind the wheel more memorable.
Aluminum-alloy Wheels
Sporting attention-grabbing 18-inch Gloss Black aluminum-alloy wheels, a race-ready black rear spoiler, adaptive LED headlights, and striking black mirror caps on the outside, plus unique Rabbit-badged seat tags and red-stitched floor mats on the inside, this limited-run hatch is more than just a visually impressive and fun to drive joyride. That’s because it also features KESSY® keyless access technology with push-button start capabilities to go along with safety features like Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. There are also four special Rabbit Edition exterior colors to choose from – Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White and Deep Black Pearl.
Rear Seat Cover
Rear Seat Cover is made of quality durable polyester material and custom-fitted to your Volkswagen model to offer you complete seat protection against everyday uses and messes. Each cover allows access to the seat belt buckles Isofix anchors armrest and pass-through function as applicable. Featuring the GTI logo. Proper installation required. Professional installation may be recommended. See owner’s literature and dealer for details.
VW did a nice job with the GTI’s interior, with red ambient 9140 led bulb lighting and illuminated door sills, the use of premium materials and soft-touch plastics, a GTI-specific instrument cluster, aluminum-look pedals, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The seats are also great, bolstered to keep you in place when doing some spirited driving on twisting mountain roads.
The 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI is a four-door hatchback that seats five. It’s available in four trim levels: S, Rabbit, SE and Autobahn. The S is well-equipped for a base model but lacks some more common features and conveniences. The new-for-2019 Rabbit bridges the gap somewhat between the S and the SE and comes in special colors not available in other GTIs. The SE adds more amenities while the Autobahn loads up with more luxury-grade features.
